Our formulas and fragrances are the birth child of Edward Solomon who was a Liberian immigrant that came to America from a family with a deep rich tradition of selling oils and other products to merchants since the early 1900’s. He took these family traditions to America and became the rst person of color to earn a PHD in Chemistry at Columbia University. Today we honor his legacy in the form of handcrafted candles in a natural soy base. The soy base is a perfect blend as it carries nontoxic products that do not harm the environment or the integrity of our natural oil blends passed down from generations. Humble Beginnings
Mind, Body & Soul was a quaint candle shop in the heart of Bed-Stuy. This little renaissance shop on Malcolm X Blvd. changed the culture of its Bed-Stuy community. Owner Sharon Solomon-Lee love of fragrances and candle creation started very early on in her life. Her father Edward Devonque Solomon, a Perfume Chemist with a PHD in Chemistry from Columbia University was her muse. As a child growing up, she worked very closely with her father in his laboratory as he created an array of luxurious fragrances. She watched her father break through the fragrance industry by creating scents and products for Muhammed Ali, Arm & Hammer and Close-up toothpaste and more. Inspired by his creativity and expertise she started working at the family business while in college.
After her father’s unfortunate passing, she partnered with her brother and opened Mind, Body & Soul. Mind, Body & Soul specializes in making the nest soy candles with exotic essential oils. Mind, Body & Soul Soy Scented candles are non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Our collection of soy candles burns cleaner than the average candle which allows them to deliver a better scent. Our candles are all handcraft and made with natural ingredients.
